I have tried connecting my Palm Pre to Win version of dT but it won't connect as USB or Media. I can confirm that it is connected via My Computer. Any suggestions?

Make sure you're in USb connect mode and not media sync mode.

The Pre is not recognized in USB mode either, as I stated above. I have tried different cables and different combinations, ie opening dT then connecting the Pre and vice versa. Any suggestions?

If you're in USB mode and your pc is recognizing your Pre as a new hardware device then there is no reason for doubleTwist to not recognize the Pre. You re running our most current build? 2.2.00.787?

Two questions for all who are having this proble.m

1. is the Pre showing up as a new hardware device on you pc?

2. if the answer is yes to 1, please send me a log file we can ascertain exactly why this behavior is happening to you. We haven't been able to reproduce it here in the office yet.

"C:\Users\YOU\AppData\Local\doubleTwist Corporation\doubleTwist desktop\Log\dTErrorLog.txt" log file path. Make a copy and send it to support(at)doubletwist.com and include the URL to this thread for reference.

Just tested on win and mac platforms. The Pre shows up fine in both.

1. connect via usb
2. pre screen gives me a choice between media sync and USB drive.
3. I choose USB drive*
4. My pre shows up in dT

* after this choice i get a pop up telling e it is installing driver software (first time only) and then a Windows autoplay pop up which i ignore and close.

The only thing I can think of for those not seeing their Pre in doubleTwist is that the device drivers are not installing on first connect.

I'm having the problem with my Pre, also. I've had it on my launch Pre and my replacement Pre, and I'm on Vista. From the log:

Strange, huh? It's definitely in USB mode. When I plugged it in the Windows autoplay showed up and so I just chose doubleTwist. Even if I ignore the autoplay and just go to doubleTwist myself, it still doesn't show up in Supported Devices.

Question for all of you with this issue: the initial look at error logs (thanks, folks) is that dt is not detecting iTunes which is a necessary part of the connection process. Do you not have iTunes installed or do you have it installed on a network drive or alternate location to the iTunes default install location?

I have iTunes installed locally, but it's bloatware so I haven't updated it since I started using MediaMonkey. I'm running iTunes 7.6.2.9. Do I need to upgrade to the latest version of iTunes?

If iTunes breaks the 1.1.0 fix to allow syncing with iTunes, does that mean that doubleTwist won't work as well? Or do you guys use iTunes in ways that's not dependent on that?

Thanks,

Elton

Both of the logs files indicate 1 problem

On your windows computer.. go to the start menu > click run... and type services.msc

If the run menu option isn't there... press the Windows Logo key and R at the same time.. this will summon the Run Dialog Box.

Your log files indicated the following: Exception: IPhoneConnector.IPhoneNotificationException: Couldn't listen for iPhone connections. Please check that the Apple Mobile Device service is installed and running.

The Apple Mobile Device Service, is a "Windows Service" installed/bundled with iTunes... Generally it runs manually. Meaning, your computer doesn't start the service. You can start the service yourself by doing the following.

After loading the Run Dialog Box, type service.msc... press enter

A large list of items will pop up (this is for Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 users by the way )

One of those items will be the Apple Mobile Device Service... right click on that service and click start..

Re Start Doubletwist.

Plug in your palm pre, set it to USB mode. Wait a few seconds and see, if your Palm Pre shows up.

EDIT: here's an article from apple, explaining how to restart/start/stop, etc, the service manually, very similar to what I've explained above.. except with pretty pretty pictures :) :) iPhone and iPod touch: How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows XP and Vista
---

hope this helps.

That didn't seem to fix it :( The error log isn't showing any error either. I upgraded to the latest iTunes, did that make it worse? I'm on webOS 1.2.

Thanks,

Elton

PS I'm on doubleTwist version 2.3.0.1529.

We're actively looking into this bug. we just last night upgraded our non-failing PRe to 1.2 and will test it shortly to see if we can repro this issue.

I'm basically getting the same thing, when I plug in the pre I always select usb mode, then when I turn on dT it doesn't even show the Pre in the list of devices, now it did when I first installed the program and I was able to mess with some things, I was starting to remove the music on my Pre so I could put new stuff on there when it froze up, giving my the "doubleTwist Desktop has stopped working..." pop up. When I run dT first then plug in the Pre, it just simply makes dT close and nothing else. I have since tried reinstalling dT but can no longer get it to recognize the Pre at all anymore. I'm currently running 32 bit Vista (yes I know, eck!) I can't seem to find the error report file you were asking for either or I would've provided that too. If you need anything more let me know. Thanks!

I'm also running 32-bit Vista, if that helps.

I am experiencing the exact same thing. I have had successes in the past where I would connect via usb with DT running and a sync would automatically occur. Other times, I would connect and it would take me to the page where I could manually move files. And still other times it just does nothing. No sync and no recognition of the Pre at all.

One big change for me today is I just got a new Pre. So, it is virgin in terms of software. I seem to remember when I used to look at the directory of the Jet drive that there used to be a DoubleTwist directory there. I don't remember installing any software on the Pre when I first set it up but there is definitely no software or directory there now.

Nothing I do will make DT recognize that the Pre exists. I've tried connecting before and after launching DT. I've tried all three Pre options when connectiong (Just Charge, USB Drive, and MediaSync).

I understand the new software with the persistent library is due out next week for the PC and that the Mac version was released yesterday, can we get a beta of that and try?

Yeah im gonna add to the this is happening to me to group and say that mine isnt connecting to doubletwist either. I noticed you said you were using WebOS 1.2, could it be an issue if the rest of us are using WebOS 1.2.1?
